2020 was the year of uncertainty. What will 2021 be? If you are a school owner and this question has been on your mind for some time, read on.

Your school must have done well and must have thrived all these years. The result of your school must have fetched you students from far and wide. But the pandemic that hit the globe in 2020 changed the way schools operate or will operate in the future. The practices that brought academic excellence to your school will soon go redundant, and you will need innovative ways to keep up with the disruptions.

A perfect school exists.

Parents have changed their preferences about choosing a school for their child. No longer do they need a school that promotes in-class teaching. They are aware of the ongoing crisis and the evolving needs that come with it. They know hybrid learning is the only solution going forward. Being a school owner means choosing the right means to make your school thrive and educating children with world-class learning.

How can this be achieved?

Your school and its infrastructure will speak in the times to come. A school that’s technologically blessed and has a system to combat a crisis of any kind will grab eyeballs. Delivering high-quality learning will continue to be one of the top parental expectations from schools during these frequent interruptions. However, to meet the high parent expectations, schools spending will witness a hike.  An increase in expenditure and quality safety expectations from parents and reduced income will mean schools will have to find innovative and prudent ways to manage their costs.

In the United States, the School Superintendents Association estimates that bringing students back to classrooms could cost around $1.8 million and $245 billion when envisaging other costs, such as hiring more staff and addressing learning loss, etc.

Schools will do well if they adopt hybrid learning to succeed in the post-lockdown world that will prevent learning loss caused due to frequent interruptions.

UNESCO also believes that schools need to narrow their budgets to enable adequate capacity for both in-person and remote learning. Also, schools should be in the state to allow an easy shift between an adequate blend of in-person and remote learning modules.

Understanding hybrid learning

Hybrid learning or an integrated online-offline strategy means that student learning will happen through a combination of learning at home and learning at school. hybrid learning creates online academic experiences that are just as accessible and effective as classroom lessons. When students come to school, their teachers teach them from the same curriculum and lesson plans, and when they stay at home, they can continue from where the teacher left off at school. The student experiences zero loss or interruption in learning, irrespective of whether the school building is open or not.

Many school owners get confused about making some earth-shattering changes to the schools’ infrastructure to achieve this. However, a simple cloud-based system can serve the purpose where all stakeholders can access the same resources irrespective of their location, anytime.
