What are the various competitive exams for class 7th?

There is a competitive examination for almost everything under the sun in the modern world. From getting the desired college admission to getting selected in an organization, examinations are everywhere. It, therefore, makes sense that we expose children to the experience of giving competitive examinations from an early age. Schools that focus on integrated education ensure their students participate in these competitive exams. However, not all schools are the same. Hence it is your responsibility as a parent to ensure that your child gets the right exposure.

Let us take a look at a few examinations that are targeted towards class 7th students:

1. National Level Science Talent Search Examination (NSTSE)

NSTSE stands for National-level Science Talent Search Examination. It is a scientifically designed, skill-based assessment developed in India for Indian schools. NSTSE takes into account the syllabi of the Central and various State Boards. Instead of testing rote learning, NSTSE tests how well the student has learned skills and concepts underlying the school syllabus. In NSTSE, the assessment of academic skills is mainly based on Mathematics and Science.

In addition to the regular mode of examination, ‘NSTSE-online’ is also available for students. ‘NSTSE-online’ is an entirely online exam and can be taken from the comfort of your home. All a student needs to have for taking this exam is a PC/Laptop with an Internet Connection and a Web-cam.

2. Mathematics Quiz Contest, Brihan Mumbai Ganit Adhyapak Mandal

The Brihan Mumbai Ganit Adhyapak Mandal organizes the Mathematics Quiz Contest for Junior Group Students (grades 6 and 7). This is open for students from all educational boards, and the Junior group is tested with challenging questions based on the 6th and 7th Maths syllabus.

The Brihan Mumbai Ganit Adhyapak Mandal is acclaimed for its Ganit Prabhutva examination that the student can give in grade 8. This Quiz Contest serves as a teaser for the more serious Ganit Prabhutva. Many class 7 students participate in this quiz and bring laurels to their school and locality. If your child is a math enthusiast, you should consider enrolling your child in this contest.

3. School Level Examination of Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth

Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth organizes school-based examinations for English, Maths, Science, Sanskrit, and Marathi. These exams are conducted in February/September. These examinations are conducted so that the general students can undergo a continuous and comprehensive evaluation. They also allow students from different schools to participate in a common platform. These exams are extremely popular with students as they find that these examinations supplement the syllabus prepared by the Government.

Every year approximately more than a lakh students from around 2000 schools appear for school-based examinations conducted by the university. The Vidyapeeth conducts about 90 exams in different subjects from Std. IV to Std. X. These exams are conducted twice a year in separate terms.

These are just a few prominent examinations and quizzes aimed at teaching students’ critical thinking and hence are quite different from traditional school exams. Many class 7 students from the different schools participate in these examinations and compete with their peers every year. These exams are highly competitive and test the subjects’ fundamentals of students. In addition to getting challenged to think out of the box, these examinations even help students build the foundation for future competitive exams like JEE, NEET, etc. Schools that focus on integrated education ensure their students take an active part in such exams.

Even though most parents try to enroll their children in various coaching institutes for preparing for these examinations, it is not necessary to do so. All these exams are completely based on a clear conceptual understanding of school subjects. If your child is thorough with the concepts and has good problem-solving skills, they can easily ace these exams. Children whose foundation is not right often struggle with concepts throughout their school life. It is challenging for teachers to know their students’ learning progress in traditional classrooms. Apart from the test scores and active participation of some students, there is hardly any way a teacher can know which student is lagging behind in which area. Due to integrated analytics and progress tracking in online learning apps, teachers at LEAD Powered Schools can easily see where a particular student is doing good and where exactly they are lagging behind. Accordingly, they can provide the required remediation to ensure each student progresses.
