How is blended learning in schools saving the sector from catastrophe?

As the current crisis doesn’t seem to be making a halt anytime soon, it becomes necessary to find ways to safeguard learning and build a system that is resilient to future shocks. The global pandemic has forced the education sector to rethink the education system and include automation across various processes.

According to The World Bank, “Developing a high-capacity, the relevant digital education system will be imperative to minimize the educational costs of school closures stemming from the COVID-19 outbreak as well as any future crises. While educational achievements need to be protected in the short term, we also need to make the right investments to ensure that education systems are resilient and are prepared and equipped for the years to come.”

This is where blended learning will prove to be a great success

Blended learning in schools uses the best of both worlds, online, and classroom approaches. In a world where schools can shut without any prior notice, learning can take a hit. To avoid this, blended learning has mitigated the catastrophic effect of COVID-19 on the education sector.  Here a learning experience is created to deliver the utmost value and quality to the learner.

This mode is incredibly effective as students can reap learning benefits while they are ‘on the go’.

Blended learning creates optimum synergy between in-person sessions and learning online by employing multiple methods to assist students in learning.

While generally seen as ‘progressive learning,’ blended learning, today, is a NECESSITY.

Blended learning in schools is fun for both teachers and students. While teachers get appropriate tools to teach students, students get access to interesting and engaging content with the help of technology. Blended learning allows students to learn at his/her own pace and refer to recorded lectures for clarification. They don’t have to wait till their next lecture and can do it instantly. This also propels student ownership.

With the help of emails, discussion boards, and chat room, the interaction between the learners and instructors have been bridged. With the help of a blended learning module, students can learn through a variety of activities that apply to many different learning styles.

Education is no longer about memorising facts but is based on applying knowledge to real-life situations to find reliable solutions. In a blended learning format, students will be made self-reliant, and like in a typical top-down structure, teachers will no longer be the only source of knowledge.

Blended learning at large is an interesting way to save time, make the curriculum engaging, and for stakeholders, it’s an effective strategy to save on cost that has been triggered post COVID-19 pandemic.
