How online school classes are more effective in teaching English to students

In modern times, English has emerged as the de facto language of global communication. Proficiency in English is nowadays a critical life skill that must be taught to all students. Most schools today place heavy emphasis on English language training for their students. During the lockdown, most schools turned to online teaching methods, and gradually the realization has sunk in that online school classes are more effective in teaching English to students than offline ones.

In this blog, we will list out three primary reasons to understand why this is so.

1. More practice at the correct level and gradual leveling up:

In offline school classes, the biggest shortcoming in English training is in terms of the amount of practice that the students get. Sure, some exercise books are available, but they are rarely used to the full extent in school classes. Things are different with online school classes. Online teaching methods allow the creation of massive question banks. This allows the online system to create different practice sets for each student if so required. In addition, modern online systems have some kind of artificial intelligence (AI) inbuilt in them. This ensures that students are given questions based on their learning requirements. Students who are doing well will be challenged with tougher questions and those who are struggling will be given tests at an easier level till their scores start improving. This helps students gradually ramp up without losing confidence. This is not possible in regular school classes. Online learning also allows continuous tracking of student progress which can pinpoint the exact areas of weaknesses of the students. This ensures that necessary remedial actions can be done at the correct time and not just before that examination.

2. Higher engagement with audio-visual content:

Any language study can become scary for some children if it is taught only using textbooks. Textbooks are excellent resources to find organized learning content. However, most children are visual learners and when they are taught audio-visual content, they absorb the knowledge even more. Especially language learning becomes more fun when taught using games and videos. For example, try imagining if you were taught English as you watched Superman cartoons!

Language learning is not just about the written word. It is also about its sounds, its enunciation, and pronunciation. Modern online learning systems integrate such audio-visual content along with regular lessons so that students not only learn the rules of written English but also understand how it is to be spoken properly.

3. Better quality and standardized content:

A key recognizable difference between the students of elite schools and those of regular schools is their English proficiency. For example, a child learning in a CBSE school in a metropolitan area usually has a higher chance of being more fluent in English than a child studying in a CBSE school in a tier 2 city. This is primarily due to the difference in the quality of teachers and peer group that is available at these two types of locations. This can be compensated through more practice and higher quality content that goes beyond textbooks.

In addition, when standardized content is readily available, schools can easily conduct training programs for their teachers using such materials. Hence online English training helps not only the students but also helps teachers to raise their game.

In conclusion, online school classes are better equipped to teach English to students as compared to their offline counterparts. The future is offline classes powered by online technology and the sooner schools start to adopt this, the further they will get ahead of the curve.
