Virtual learning making it challenging to contact teachers? Not anymore

Remote. In-person. Hybrid. No matter how kids are learning this year, parents and teachers’ relationship will be different.

Contacting teaching was a monthly or a weekly affair for parents. In traditional schooling,  parents used to visit teachers to know their children’s performance, and according to their performance, measures were suggested. Taking care of a child at home was a breeze where nothing much could go wrong. Then in 2020, the pandemic wreaked havoc on the planet, upending lives and making school authorities think of more robust models that won’t crumble with future calamities. Hence, virtual learning in schools became the trend.

However, with online learning, contacting teachers became a task and keeping track of a child’s performance also got challenging. With no set pattern or a framework, curriculum and management became disorganised. Virtual learning in schools did save them from chaos, but the long-term benefits are still to be seen.

Since parents play a vital role in their child’s education during virtual learning, it became essential for them to remain updated about their child’s performance to act accordingly. In the ongoing times when social distancing is the norm and schools have been shut until further notice, it is imperative to adopt a model that takes the convenience of school at the students’ doorsteps. Mere online learning is not enough. Integrated solutions surfaced to ensure better connectivity between parents and teachers. It keeps parents updated about their ward’s performance to take appropriate remedial sessions on time. Unlike traditional schooling, where parents had to wait for the next day to know what is happening with their child’s performance, integrated solutions help parents connect with teachers whenever they want.

Virtual learning in schools is here to stay, but it’s up to schools to make it reliable to withstand the future crisis. Mere online learning won’t help; a robust structure that simplifies complicated tasks is mandatory.

Highlighting the importance of communication with parents during the ongoing times, UNICEF addresses the schools that, “It is very important to consistently and systematically communicate with parents, not just out of necessity. Set up clear and consistent communication mechanisms, a pattern of reaching out to parents, thus encouraging them to get involved and support their children’s activity at school.”
