Starting with a handful of students and an ambitious vision, LEAD today provides school edtech solutions to over 8,000+ schools, 50,000+ teachers, and 35 Lakh+ students across 20 states in India.
Our journey from a far-sighted vision to a satisfying reality wasn’t achieved in a day. LEAD is the result of our constant dedication and effort to bring a change, of which these milestones are a witness.
Sumeet Mehta and Smita Deorah co-founded LEAD School in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
LEAD’s first school, Shantiniketan English School (SNES), was located in a remote village 35 kms away from Ahmedabad and had 14 students.
The founders delved deep into the traditional education system and realised that lack of proficiency in English was one of the major reasons for uncoordinated education. Hence, they decided to approach English as a skill instead of a language.
LEAD announced a revolutionary approach towards English learning – ELGA, signifying a huge change from age-based to a skill-based grouping of students.
LEAD opened LEAD School Mangaon – the first LEAD-owned school.
LEAD created its first teacher application and transitioned all of its teachers to tablets, making them technologically accustomed.
LEAD took over four government schools, in addition to several other public schools and partner schools, consolidating the position of LEAD as a solution provider for Affordable Private Schools.
By 2017, LEAD began offering an ‘integrated system’ for schools by helping them digitize the entire curriculum and providing solutions for every stakeholder – teachers, parents, students, and school owners.
The American Leadership Board appreciated and awarded LEAD for its impact on the students and innovation in education.
LEAD School Kurduwadi was awarded with the “Best School Management Award” by Solapur Vruttadarpan News channel and Daily Solapur Katusatya.
In a Series C funding round led by Westbridge Capital along with existing investor Elevar Equity, LEAD raised $28 million.
LEAD School Mangaon was awarded at the EducationWorld India Budget Private School Rankings, 2020.
LEAD founder Sumeet Mehta was featured in “25 Leaders Reinventing K-12 Education” by EducationWorld India.
Surpassing the Series C funding, LEAD raised $30 million in the series D funding.
LEAD was applauded by Outlook India for improving the quality of school education and making it more innovative and affordable for students.
LEAD Integrated System included 3,000+ schools, allowing LEAD to transform education for over 12,00,000 students across the country.
In January 2022, we raised $100 million in our Series E funding at a valuation of $1.1 billion. The round was led by Westbridge Capital while GSV Ventures also participated. With this we plan to get closer to our achieving our vision of providing quality affordable education to more than 25 million students in India.
LEAD gets acknowledged as one of India’s Top 24 ‘Employers of the Future’ by Fortune India and Work Universe. With this LEAD joined some of India’s biggest, and most reputed brands on this list.
