Competitive exams for class 8th students

Class 8th is a critical point in a student’s school learning journey. The student has just entered into higher studies, and school classes don’t have the 10th board pressure. It is a perception amongst parents that competitive exams are only for the smartest of the lot. There is indeed an unnecessary artificial aura of fear around competitive exams. Competitive exams are nothing but application-based exams that rely on a strong foundation built in school classes.

In this article, we describe the three most essential examinations that a class 8th student can appear in and prepare for:

  • Pre-RMO

The Mathematical Olympiad Programme in India, which leads to the participation of Indian students in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is organized by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) on behalf of the National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM) of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India.

Its main purpose is to spot mathematical talent among pre-university students in the country.

The Mathematical Olympiad program consists of six stages:

  1. Pre-Regional Mathematical Olympiad (Pre-RMO)
  2. Regional Mathematical Olympiad (RMO)
  3. Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO)
  4. IMO Training Camp
  5. Pre Departure Camp
  6. International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO)

This competition is open for students from class 8 to class 12. So class 8th students are eligible. The major areas from which problems are given are algebra, combinatorics, geometry, and number theory. The key to success in this competition is a strong foundation of maths built-in school classes. If the foundation is not right, students will face difficulty in appearing for these advanced competitive exams.

  • NLSTSE

NLSTSE stands for National Level Science Talent Search Exam. This diagnostic test identifies talented students from classes II to XII. They include interesting questions that require thinking, not simply recalling as per the conventional techniques used in regular school classes. NSTSE provides detailed skill-wise feedback, highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of students. With digital classes in schools, the foundations of science can be made stronger, as they allow for the usage of multi-modal content. Thus it leads to a better understanding of complex concepts in science, making students better prepared for competitive exams in the future.

  • GeoGenius

GeoGenius’s stated mission is to spark student interest in Geography and increase public awareness about it. Students from Class II to XII are eligible for these exams. The Geo Genius National Geography Olympiad is a three-level competition. Geo Genius provides Indian students in the Senior Category a way to qualify for the International Geography Olympiad (commonly known as iGeo) each July. Strong foundations of geography can be built-in in regular school classes by the use of multi-modal content and activity-based learning. At LEAD Powered Schools, we use the VLC (Visualize, Locate and Connect) approach to make social sciences easy and fun for students. The use of maps, powerful images, and project work helps to locate and see different concepts come alive. The lessons are made interesting by using relevant examples and getting students to connect to life, current events, and past to present.

  1. Silverzone Olympiads

Silverzone Foundation is an NGO, which aims at promoting competitive awareness of academics in school children in India and abroad. It is conducted for classes I to XII in various subjects and ensures that the students succeed not only on professional or career counts but also on social parameters. These exams also develop creative thinking and enhance problem-solving skills.

The subjects in which Silverzone Olympiads are conducted are Computer, Mathematics, Science and English Language.

All these examinations are prestigious examinations, and students must prepare thoroughly for them. Even if students don’t qualify for these examinations, just the process of preparation will enhance their academic abilities multifold.

To ensure your child is suitable to prepare for them it’s essential that their foundational training is right. In the school classes at LEAD Powered Schools, we guarantee that children don’t just rote learn concepts but learn through conditioning and trials. This ensures that they build conceptual clarity for life, which further helps them be more set for any competitive examinations in the future.
