Best online learning apps and resources for kids

Today you can leverage technology to help your children or students learn new things in a fun, engaging, and highly effective manner. The fast-paced and easy-to-use technology has made it pretty easy for today’s children to adapt to technological innovations. We all have seen toddlers and adolescents having a knack for smartphones and tablets, and it’s understandable why parents despise the idea of too much screen time at this age.

Screen time is inevitable. The good news is you can put that screen time to good use either through online learning classes or useful educational apps. Here are some of the apps and resources you can introduce your kid to apart from their school learning app:

1. Ted Ed@home

Ted Ed@home was created to support the millions of students, parents and teachers affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. TED-Ed@Home basically provides a daily newsletter to share high-quality, interactive, video-based lessons spanning all age groups and subjects for free. Every newsletter sent by Ted Ed@home also includes insights and tips collected from TED-Ed’s global community of students, parents and educators. It serves all school age levels including: Elementary/Primary, Middle School/Lower Secondary, High School/Upper Secondary, College/University. It covers subjects such as Arts, Literature & Language, Mathematics, Science & Technology, Social Studies, Thinking and Learning, and more. Visit this website to know more.

2. YouTube Kids

YouTube Kids allows parents to create a separate profile for each kid in their household. Each profile has a separate set of viewing preferences and recommendations, allowing multiple kids to get the best student learning growth from the YouTube Kids app. If you wonder what does YouTube consider as the age of kid, then it is 13. The typical videos available on this app include shows that have clips and full episodes of popular children’s programs, music clips that include classic and contemporary kids’ songs. The learning section provides access to online learning classes from sources including Khan Academy, PBS Kids, and TED-Ed. The explore section features a wide range of user-created content, toy-related videos (including many unboxing videos), and a vast array of kid-friendly content.

3. Khan Academy kids

Khan Academy Kids is a free, fun, and educational program designed for young children to get them interested in learning. The extensive curriculum and original content make learning engaging and fun for children ages two to eight. It’s a mobile app for online learning classes that is separate to the Khan Academy app. It’s all free for learners and teachers. Visit this website to know more.

4. National Geographic Kids

The National Geographic Kids website is the online counterpart of the National Geographic Kids magazine. It provides various educational content including educational games, quizzes, puzzles, kid-friendly information, and great fun to watch videos. For example, this section will provide information about various animals in a fun video format.
