NIPUN stands for National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy. It was launched by the Ministry of Education in July 2021 addressing critical gaps in early education. With alarming statistics such as 55% of school-going children in India unable to read and comprehend short texts*, there is a pressing need for a structured approach.
The NIPUN Bharat scheme is designed to achieve foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN) for every child in India by the end of Grade 3 by 2026-27.
