It is critical to train future leaders in sync with globalisation as it unfolds at breakneck speed. The era of globalisation has had a profound effect on education systems, especially in India. It has ignited a debate on the need for an education system that nurtures global citizens.

According to the World Bank, “The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the learning crisis, and the impact on the human capital of this generation of learners is likely to be long-lasting.”

What does NEP say?

To facilitate this, the National Education Policy (NEP) unveiled in 2020 focuses on training Indian students to be global citizens. Global citizens are a product of global education that empower learners of all ages to undertake active global roles, building more peaceful, tolerant, inclusive and secure societies. By cultivating a global mindset and competency early on, children will develop the skills required to thrive as global citizens who embrace diversity in all aspects of life.

As a result of the unveiling of NEP 2020, the age-old education system will be revamped , rightly so, because the last education policy came into action in 1986. The New Education Policy (NEP 2020) takes a visionary, practical, progressive and comprehensive approach towards education and its purpose.

Not staying in oblivion

Despite the government’s efforts to introduce a policy that can transform the education sector, the ball now rests in schools’ courts.

According to the World Bank, “The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the learning crisis, and the impact on the human capital of this generation of learners is likely to be long-lasting.”

The current crisis has made it imperative for schools to adapt to combat it and find reliable measures.

Did you know a report says that 85% of jobs to exist by 2030 do not exist yet? Children of the 21st century must be prepared for such a world. They must hone a few traits to be a global citizen or future leaders. Some of them are:

  • Collaboration
  • Communication
  • Creativity and imagination
  • Critical Thinking
